Job summary

Mercy Health is seeking a Clinical Unit Leader (Lead RN/Charge Nurse) for the Med/Surg Unit at St. Charles Hospital.

The role coordinates patient care, leads the unit team, and collaborates with the Clinical Manager to promote exemplary clinical practice and patient satisfaction while optimizing resources. Responsibilities include adjusting schedules, mentoring staff, ensuring safety and infection control, and effective communication with patients and families.

Qualifications

• Current RN license in state you are practicing or covered by compact (required)
• BLS Basic Life Support (preferred, must obtain prior to patient care)
• Certifications based on unit overseen (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Coordinate patient care on a designated unit with the Clinical Manager
• Lead, guide, and mentor staff in the absence of the unit leader
• Maintain environmental safety standards and infection control
• Communicate effectively with patients and families about care plan
• Round on patients to evaluate safety and experience
• Serve as a resource to staff, patients, and families
• Act as a clinical resource and potential preceptor for staff
• Collaborate with other departments to resolve operational issues
• Participate in quality monitoring and performance improvement activities
• Facilitate patient placement, admission, transfer, and discharge processes
• Support mission and policies of Mercy Health
