Job summary

University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee is seeking a Central Plant Operator I to monitor and operate the campus heating and cooling systems. The role requires routine maintenance, accurate data logging, and adherence to safety procedures while working on-site at UWM facilities.

The position includes shifts including weekends/holidays, and the compensation ranges from $26.50 to $29.50 per hour, with final salary based on experience and equity factors.

Qualifications

  • Minimum six months of maintenance experience (education, training, and coursework may be considered in lieu of experience).
  • Ability to lift weights up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Ability to work at heights up to 35 feet while using fall protection or ladders.
  • Ability and willingness to wear required PPE according to UWM policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Required to be able to work overtime and all shifts including weekends and holidays on a rotating basis.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, operate, adjust, maintain, and repair boilers, chillers, and related equipment in the Central Heating and Cooling plant.
  • Support operation of main campus and satellite plant boilers, chillers, and auxiliary equipment; startup/shutdown, control adjustments, and log/documentation.
  • Address urgent or unplanned operations needs under guidance; reboot systems and monitor water flow as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
