Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an Inspector to join our CEI team and perform complex and routine construction inspections at project sites. The role requires knowledge of roadway, bridges, drainage, erosion control, and maintenance/traffic categories, with travel to multiple project locations.

Expect hands-on inspection work, reading and interpreting plans and specs, and reporting findings under varying supervision. A valid driver’s license and relevant certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in English.
• Arithmetic proficiency at an intermediate level.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
• Ability to adapt to new technologies and quickly learn new applications.
• Advanced knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction.
• Ability to read, understand, interpret and explain construction plans/drawings, contract provisions, and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Performing complex and routine inspections of construction to ensure materials and processes meet plans and specifications.
• Uses higher-grade equipment and performs complex calculations for inspections.
• Work under varying supervision depending on assignment.
• Reviewing drawings to prepare for inspections.
• Documenting and communicating inspection results to supervisor.
