Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a field inspector to join our Transportation Construction, Engineering and Inspection group. This on-site role involves inspecting roadway, bridges, drainage, erosion control, and maintenance/traffic aspects at project sites across multiple locations in the U.S., with 20–40% travel.

You will read and interpret plans, coordinate with the project team, and ensure conformance to contracts and specifications.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Certifications from ACI or NICET in earthwork, asphalt, and concrete if required.
• Valid driver's license.
• 12 years of related experience.
• Willing to travel domestically or internationally.

Responsibilities

• Performing both complex and routine inspections of construction to evaluate if appropriate materials and construction processes are used; and that construction conforms to plans, specifications, and special provisions.
• Uses higher grade of equipment and performs complex calculations to perform construction inspection.
• Works under limited supervision or direct supervision depending on the demonstrated knowledge for the specific assignment.
• Reviewing drawings to prepare for the construction inspection.
• Understands the design of the construction that will be inspected. Documenting and communicating the results of the inspection and communicates to the supervisor.
