Job summary

MAA is seeking a Senior Capital Accountant to report to the Director of Capital Accounting. The role focuses on GAAP-compliant capital accounting for fixed assets, including capitalization, depreciation, and disposals, with oversight of the fixed asset sub-ledger and month-end close.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in accounting, deep GAAP knowledge, and experience with real estate asset management and depreciation tools such as Yardi or Sage Premier.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of GAAP and fixed asset accounting.
• Experience with capital projects, capitalization policies, and asset accounting processes.
• Strong analytical skills to identify trends and ensure accuracy in financial data.
• Ability to communicate complex asset information to non-financial teams.

Responsibilities

• Completes month-end close responsibilities.
• Engages in advanced capital account analysis and journal entries.
• Coordinate accurate capitalization, depreciation, and disposals of assets.
• Reconciles the fixed asset sub-ledger.
• Collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure asset information accuracy.
• Supports audits by providing data and documentation.
• Trains new team members on key capital accounting procedures.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
