Job summary

MAA is seeking a Capital Accountant to join our Finance team in Germantown, TN. The role focuses on capital accounting under GAAP, fixed assets, depreciation, retirements, and disposals, and month-end close responsibilities.

You will maintain daily capital transactions, perform in-process capital account analysis, and respond to internal and external inquiries while upholding MAA’s core values and confidentiality. Collaboration with team members is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or related field.
• 1–3 years of accounting experience.
• Foundational knowledge of accounting principles and GAAP.

Responsibilities

• Completes month-end close responsibilities.
• Records and maintain daily capital financial transactions, including general ledger journal entries.
• Assist in the tracking of fixed assets, including fixed asset related entries for depreciation, retirements, and disposals.
• Performs in-process capital account analysis.
• Resolves all internal and external capital inquiries.
• Performs other related duties as assigned to meet the needs of the business.

Job SummaryThe Capital Accountant reports to the Capital Accounting Manager and performs general entry-level accounting duties which relate to fixed assets, the largest balance sheet reporting line, and accounting standards. This position is responsible for capital accounting to ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).The successful candidate will embody and work to reinforce MAA’s Core Values.
