Job description

Join the Pharmaceutical Calibrations and Instrumentation (PCI) team! We are seeking a Senior Calibration Technician capable of performing calibration and maintenance on process and analytical instrumentation onsite at our client pharmaceutical facilities in Michigan and surrounding states if needed. Please review the job description below and apply if interested. If you enjoy working at a fast pace, on the go rather than at a desk, have a passion for quality work, and possess a strong electronics or instrumentation background, this position may be ideal for you! The position is eligible for a company vehicle.

This role focuses on maintenance, calibrations, and repairs on various instruments, including process, utility, and laboratory equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, transmitters, monitors, incubators, centrifuges, autoclaves, pipettes, balances, and pressure and temperature devices. Experience with computer-based calibration tracking programs (CMMS) is preferred.

The Senior Calibration Technician (Tech SR) reports directly to the Team Leader, Manager, or Director, depending on the organizational structure. These positions are non-exempt. Up to fifty percent travel may be required based on project and client needs, with most work projected to be in Massachusetts.

Expectations:

Calibration Technicians are responsible for completing calibrations, qualifications, and preventive maintenance (PMs) with accurate and timely GxP documentation, following PCI and/or client-specific policies and procedures. They are expected to proactively support the team, provide client support, and build trust with internal and client personnel by upholding PCI values such as honesty, integrity, pride, accountability, teamwork, and commitment.

Technicians should identify and execute tasks that add value to PCI's services, providing guidance on technical issues and troubleshooting complex problems. The Tech SR is expected to develop strategic relationships with clients, offer high-level direction, and lead initiatives that demonstrate reliability, strategic insight, and thorough follow-through. They work closely with clients to evaluate, demonstrate, and implement value-added solutions.

Responsibilities/Assignments:

  • Supervise and oversee calibrations, qualifications, and PMs, ensuring accurate GxP documentation and adherence to policies and safety standards.
  • Provide guidance and effective solutions to clients and PCI technical staff.
  • Mentor and serve as a role model to other PCI associates, exemplifying PCI's values.
  • Ensure proper handling and maintenance of equipment, training staff as needed.
  • Develop client quotes and proposals.
  • Oversee project planning, including scheduling, resource allocation, documentation, and ensuring client requirements are met. Manage project profitability, scope changes, and billing accuracy.
  • Assess safety concerns and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Develop relationships with clients, understand their needs, and deliver effective solutions. Lead projects and act as Account Manager for select clients based on business needs.

Skills Required:

  • Expertise in instrument calibration and troubleshooting in manufacturing, utilities, and laboratory environments.
  • Proficiency with CMMS systems.
  • Strong understanding of government regulations, calibration principles, and safety practices.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Thorough electrical knowledge and safety practices.
  • Financial acumen related to project management and profitability.
  • Mentorship skills and active involvement in professional organizations.

Experience & Education:

Four-year degree in Life Sciences, Engineering, Electronics, or related field, or equivalent military training plus four+ years of relevant experience in metrology, instrumentation, or calibration. Experience in quality systems/pharmaceutical environments is required.
