Blue Origin seeks a Senior CAD Drafter Lead (Level IV) to head the development, maintenance, and release of complex 3D models and 2D drawings across mechanical, structural, fluid, and electrical disciplines. You will mentor drafters, drive MBD strategies, and steward CAD/PLM standards for ground support equipment supporting New Glenn operations and engine test facilities.

You will operate with minimal oversight, lead design initiatives, and collaborate with the CAD team and supervising manager

Qualifications

• 2-year AS degree with 10+ years of experience; OR 4-year BS degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, or Systems Engineering with 8+ years of experience in a technical design role
• Advanced technical expertise with PTC Creo Parametric and Windchill PLM
• Demonstrated experience managing enterprise-level large CAD assemblies and associated drawings
• Strong knowledge of ASME Y14.100, Y14.5, Y14.41
• Advanced comprehension of GD&T application, interpretation, and specification
• Experience with engineering change management, product structure architecture, and PLM administration
• Demonstrated ability to lead, guide, and develop team members in a technical environment
• Strong coordination and leadership skills with experience providing day-to-day team guidance
• Proven communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships across teams
• Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Responsibilities

• Technical Design Leadership: own complex tasks and programs; lead Model-Based Definition strategy and implementation across the team
• Lead advanced mechanical/structural design including complex steel frameworks and assemblies
• Lead advanced fluid system design including complex piping routes and manifold designs
• Lead electrical system design transitions from 2D to 3D using Creo and related extensions
• Architect and maintain enterprise-level CAD assemblies with advanced techniques
• Author and approve Engineering Change Requests and manage Windchill changes
• Lead CAD/PLM standards, templates, and best practices at the unit level
• Champion AI-assisted design tools and automation in CAD workflows
• Lead peer reviews to ensure accuracy of others’ work
• Manage external engineering services and vendor coordination
• Support Lead Assignment program and daily priorities with supervising manager
