Job summary

CesiumAstro is seeking a Principal CAD Designer to join our Austin-area team. The role focuses on advanced SolidWorks CAD design, 3D modeling, drawings, and technical documentation across the product lifecycle for satellites, spacecraft, and aerospace systems.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years in CAD design within aerospace, strong GD&T expertise, and experience with PDM/PLM, BOM control, and engineering change processes. A collaborative, fast-paced environment awaits.

Qualifications

Associate degree or technical certification in Drafting/Mechanical Design preferred.
7+ years CAD design and drafting experience in manufacturing/aerospace/engineering context.
Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks with part modeling and drawings.
Strong GD&T knowledge and engineering documentation best practices.
Experience with DraftSight, Lucidchart/Draw.io, and Jira.

Responsibilities

Provide advanced CAD drafting and design support across the product lifecycle using SolidWorks.
Create, modify, and maintain 3D models, assemblies, drawings, and technical docs.
Ensure deliverables meet GD&T, standards, and documentation procedures.
Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and program teams for design development and releases.
Manage and version-control CAD files in PDM/PLM systems and maintain BOM structures.
