Job summary

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) is seeking a Senior Buyer to lead the most complex, high-value procurements. This role shapes procurement strategy, negotiates terms with vendors, and mentors Buyers in a dynamic higher-education environment.

The Senior Buyer will manage procurement activities end-to-end, including bid processes, contract lifecycle, and policy guidance, while collaborating with internal clients and leadership to ensure compliance and optimal value.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management, or a related field.
• Five years of progressively responsible procurement experience in higher education or public sector procurement.
• Experience with state/local procurement and complex contract negotiations.

Responsibilities

• Lead procurement strategy and execution for complex, high-value acquisitions.
• Manage purchase orders, change orders, and contract lifecycle in Workday.
• Negotiate contract terms, pricing, and risk with vendors and legal.
• Provide policy guidance and advise departments on procurement matters.
• Lead cross-functional sourcing teams and present analyses to leadership.
