Job summary

The University of Maryland, College Park, is seeking an early-career Buyer to provide professional procurement services across the university and USM institutions as needed. Under supervision, you will manage routine to moderately complex procurements, develop specifications, and conduct market research with campus departments and suppliers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Three (3) years of experience as a buyer performing procurement of supplies, materials, equipment and services.
• Additional work experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis for up to four (4) years.

Responsibilities

• Review and process requisitions; prepare and review purchase orders, contracts, solicitations, bid packages and related documents.
• Conduct competitive solicitations and evaluate supplier proposals; make award recommendations.
• Negotiate and administer contracts and purchase orders within delegated authority; manage change orders and expedite orders.
• Support invoice-related issues and complete sole source actions as needed.
• Advise departments on procurement processes and maintain required documentation; route actions for approval.
• Support supplier diversity by engaging minority- and women-owned businesses and small enterprises.
