Job summary

CBRE is seeking a Chief Building Engineer in Chicago, IL to lead preventive maintenance and repairs of buildings and industrial systems. The role includes supervising staff, coordinating subcontractors, and ensuring safety and efficiency across all building operations.

You will schedule preventive maintenance with clients, monitor fire alarms, HVAC, and plumbing, and drive improvements in procedures while aligning with CBRE RISE values.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED, or trade school diploma with 5-8 years of job-related experience.
• Meet the physical requirements of this role including stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and lifting 50 lbs+.
• Innovative mindset to develop methods that go beyond existing solutions.
• Ability to solve unique problems using standard and innovative solutions with broad impact.
• In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Excellent organizational skills with an inquisitive mindset.
• Highly sophisticated math skills for percentages, fractions, and financial calculations.

Responsibilities

• Follow all applicable codes, regulations, and safety directives for building operations.
• Lead operations, assign work orders, and train coworkers and subcontractors; arrange for subcontractors as needed.
• Consult with clients to schedule preventive maintenance to minimize downtime.
• Check fire alarms, HVAC, and plumbing to ensure proper operation.
• Oversee engineering staff and ensure client spaces are in good condition.
• Respond to emergencies and seek help when needed.
• Apply advanced knowledge to develop better methods for department objectives.
• Coach others to deepen knowledge across related disciplines.
• Lead by example and model CBRE RISE values.
• Communicate complex ideas clearly and influence stakeholders.
