Job summary

Land O'Lakes, Inc. in Arden Hills, MN seeks a Sr Building Operating Engineer to lead hands-on operation and maintenance of HVAC, boilers, chillers, BAS, and related systems on a mixed-use campus.

The role focuses on reliability, energy efficiency, and cost control, with responsibilities to troubleshoot, mentor staff, and oversee contractors while aligning with safety and regulatory standards. Monday–Friday, day shift, on-call roughly every 4 weeks.

Qualifications

• Minnesota Class B Boiler Operator License required.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience or equivalent.
• Strong hands-on experience with commercial/industrial building systems.
• Advanced knowledge of HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and BAS.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex systems independently.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to read mechanical/electrical/controls documentation.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot HVAC, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, air-handling equipment, plumbing, electrical systems, and BAS.
• Serve as the technical escalation point for complex building system issues and provide hands-on troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
• Monitor system performance and identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, reliability, equipment life, and operating costs.
• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance and respond to equipment alarms, failures, and facility emergencies.
• Coordinate daily maintenance activities, review work orders, and provide technical guidance, training, and mentoring to facilities personnel.
• Coordinate and oversee contractors and service providers, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to specifications.
• Support capital projects, equipment installations, upgrades, commissioning, preventative maintenance planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support boiler licensing, safety programs, inspections, environmental requirements, permits, and other regulatory compliance activities.
• Develop and improve maintenance procedures and documentation for new and existing equipment.
• Collaborate with Facilities, Engineering, EHS, IT, R&D, and other campus partners to resolve facility issues and support project goals.
• Help evaluate and justify the tools, equipment, and resources needed to improve safety, efficiency, and quality of work.
