Job summary

Facade Today is seeking a hands-on Building Engineer to maintain and operate HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life-safety systems in commercial office properties. You will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and conduct routine inspections across multiple trades.

The role requires work on commercial assets with overtime and on-call availability as needed to ensure safe, efficient operations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent required.
• Minimum 4 years of building maintenance experience and/or completion of an accredited trade school program in HVAC, electrical, or related field.
• Working knowledge of commercial HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and life safety systems.
• Ability to safely operate and maintain building equipment including chillers, generators, switchgear, pumps, and air handling units.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs on HVAC systems and related equipment.
• Monitor building systems and document readings; address issues as needed.
• Troubleshoot electrical systems, including circuits, breakers, outlets, and lighting components.
• Maintain and repair plumbing systems such as faucets, toilets, pumps, and valves.

• Read mechanical drawings and record tenant utility meter readings as required.

Job description

The Building Engineer is responsible for the hands-on maintenance, operation, and repair of building systems to ensure assigned properties operate safely and efficiently. This position performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, minor repairs, and routine inspections across HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems. This role requires a background in commercial real estate office buildings, not residential.

Responsibilities:

• Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs on HVAC systems, including AHUs, VAV/PIU units, pumps, motors, belts, bearings, actuators, and related equipment.
• Monitor chillers, building automation/energy management systems, water treatment levels, and other mechanical equipment; document readings and address issues as needed.
• Troubleshoot and perform basic repairs to electrical systems, including circuits, breakers, outlets, switches, lighting components, and related equipment.
• Maintain and repair plumbing systems, including faucets, flush valves, toilets, urinals, pumps, drains, and pressure-reducing valves.
• Inspect, operate, and respond to building life safety systems, including fire alarms, emergency generators, and fire pumps; maintain required inspection logs.
• Perform general building repairs and maintenance, including doors and hardware, security systems, painting, drain clearing, and other corrective maintenance.
• Read mechanical drawings and wiring diagrams and record tenant utility meter readings as required.
• Respond promptly and professionally to tenant service requests and assist with other building maintenance needs as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years of building maintenance experience and/or completion of an accredited trade school program in HVAC, electrical, or a related field.
• Working knowledge of commercial HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and life safety systems.
• Ability to safely operate and maintain building equipment including chillers, generators, switchgear, pumps, and air handling units.
• Strong troubleshooting, organizational, communication, and customer service skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to safely use ladders, lifts, hand tools, meters, drain equipment, and appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Self-motivated, responsive, and able to manage multiple maintenance priorities with minimal supervision.
• Must be available for overtime, after-hours work, and participation in the property's on-call engineering schedule as needed.
