Job summary

DeKalb County is seeking a Building Inspector to perform field inspections for residential and commercial projects, ensuring code compliance with building, HVAC and plumbing standards.

The role conducts site inspections, communicates findings to owners and contractors, and maintains records. A minimum associate's degree and three years in construction inspections are required, plus ICC or related certifications and a Georgia driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree required; three years of experience in building trades or construction inspections, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• ICC Residential and Commercial Building Inspections Certification or related Electrical, Plumbing, or Mechanical certification within area of assignment; may require additional certs.

Responsibilities

• Assists with performance appraisals; directs work and trains staff.
• Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work to meet objectives.
• Inspects building, HVAC, and plumbing installations for code compliance.
• Writes letters to contractors and owners regarding inspection findings.
• Maintains inspection records and related documentation.
• Communicates with owners, contractors, developers and the public about codes and procedures.
• Performs administrative duties: calls, scheduling inspections, filing, data entry.
