Job summary

DeKalb County Government seeks a position within the regulatory compliance division to enforce zoning, sign codes, property maintenance, building codes, business licenses, noise enforcement and historic preservation.

The role is safety-sensitive with random drug testing as per County policy, and entails reviewing complaints, conducting inspections, and preparing evidence for court proceedings and reports.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Two years of customer service experience required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
• Within two years, completion of Level I GACE certification or ICC Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector certification.

Responsibilities

• Responds to citizen complaints; inspects locations for violations, gathers evidence, issues warnings and summonses.
• Addresses illegal signage; educates businesses on sign regulations; facilitates sign disposal.
• Attends court hearings; processes evidence; prepares testimony materials.
• Performs property inspections; inspects multi-family dwellings; coordinates with local law enforcement.
• Conducts community meetings; educates public on code compliance and safety; supports volunteer efforts.
• Manages department documentation and records, including complaints, licenses, and reports.
