Job Title: Building Inspector Supervisor
Highly responsible, advanced technical, supervisory, and administrative work in enforcing compliance with applicable national, state, and local laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations in the City's Building Services Department.
Work involves conducting or supervising inspections of new and existing buildings, structures, and properties. Work includes both field and office duties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts or supervises technical field inspections of buildings, structures, and premises during various phases of construction and use, including high rises and other complex structures.
- Orders portions of a building or structure to be exposed for inspection as needed.
- May order construction work stopped and/or buildings vacated if occupancy or use violates regulations.
- Recommends methods, materials, equipment, and alterations to ensure compliance with standards.
- Checks building plans to ensure actual construction conforms to approved plans.
- Investigates and resolves complaints.
- Routes inspection requests to appropriate inspectors.
- Interprets and explains regulations and standards; provides technical advice to interested parties including subordinates, other agencies, and the public.
- Consults with subordinate inspectors on questionable construction practices.
- Instructs, trains, and evaluates subordinates in inspection and enforcement activities.
- Testifies in court and before related boards; prepares documentation and testimony.
- Reviews plans, blueprints, specifications, and materials lists for compliance with regulations and good practices.
- Prepares and maintains reports, records, and correspondence related to inspection activities.
- Reports inspection findings on computer.
- Performs related work as required.
Qualifications:
- Five years of construction experience in a supervisory capacity, with at least one of the following:
- A Florida Registered Architect,
- A Florida Registered Professional Engineer, or
- A General Contractor licensed by the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board.
- Standard Building Inspector and Plans Examiner Licenses from the Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board.
- Standard Buildings Plans Examiner License within ninety (90) days of appointment.
- Florida Driver's License.
Physical Requirements:
- Sensory skills to communicate effectively via telephone and in person.
- Ability to operate office equipment.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, crawl, and reach.
- Ability to access construction sites and buildings.
- Ability to drive and perform on-site inspections at various locations.
