Job summary

The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government (LFUCG) is seeking a Building Inspector to oversee the Division of Building Inspection’s core activities, ensuring enforcement of the Kentucky Building Code, Residential Code, and pertinent ordinances.

The role requires orchestrating daily operations, supervising staff, and coordinating with various agencies to maintain compliance and high standards in construction oversight.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in architecture, engineering, fire science, or building technology.
• Six years of experience in a directly related construction position reading and interpreting building plans and specifications; or drafting duties.

Responsibilities

• Directs activities and manages daily operations of the assigned section, including staffing, training, policy development, project review and reporting.
• Manages, reviews, and evaluates the work of subordinate staff.
• Reviews and approves permit applications, construction plans and documents for commercial projects.
• Reviews and interprets building codes, ordinances, and zoning regulations to assist staff and the public.
• Coordinates with internal divisions, departments, and external organizations to ensure compliance.
• Represents LFUCG at internal and external meetings and trainings.
• Collects and provides evidence, files criminal complaints as needed.
• Performs related work as assigned.
