Job summary

The City of Elizabethtown is seeking a Building Inspector in the Planning and Development Department to inspect residential and commercial properties for occupancy compliance with the Kentucky Building Code and KY Residential Code. Supervision is provided by the Chief Building Official and the Director of Planning & Development.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma, a valid Kentucky driver’s license, and knowledge of building construction and inspection terminology.

Responsibilities

• Receive visitors and telephone calls in an office setting.
• Visit properties to discuss compliance with ordinances and provide information on rules and regulations.
• Communicate with property owners, contractors, and the public regarding code requirements and inspection results.
• Schedule inspections and prepare notices related to enforcement of the codes.
• Perform inspections to ensure structures are safe for occupancy and meet minimum requirements.
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions and operate a motor vehicle to visit construction sites.
