Job summary

City of Elizabethtown is seeking a Code Enforcement Inspector to perform field and office inspections, review documents, and ensure compliance with building codes. You will meet with property owners and contractors to discuss code requirements and inspection outcomes, while maintaining accurate records.

The role involves outdoor inspections, clear communication with the public, and adherence to safety standards. Candidates should be able to work in varying weather and overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

• Receive visitors and telephone calls in an office setting.
• Operate modern office equipment including printers, computers, and associated software.
• Assist in maintaining all records and documents of inspections and code enforcement actions.
• Visually review and process documents and place records in proper storage location.
• Visit properties in the field to discuss compliance with ordinances with owners, architects and contractors.
• Communicate with property owners, contractors, and the public regarding code requirements, inspection results, and permit status.
• Operate a motor vehicle safely.
• Perform inspections to ensure structures are safe for occupancy and meet minimum requirements.
• Perform visual inspections of properties and buildings including stairs, roofs, crawl spaces, uneven surfaces.
• Schedule inspections and prepare enforcement notices; coordinate with staff/other agencies.
• Work in outdoor weather conditions.
• Hear and communicate clearly in person and by telephone.
• Place records in proper location in the office (up to 15 pounds).
• Communicate clearly with the public in a polite manner.
• Work overtime or outside regular hours as needed.
• Assist in condemnation actions of unsafe structures.
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
