Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking a Controls Service Technician 5 to design, configure, service, and commission complete HVAC building control systems at client sites. You will develop software, execute commissioning, and produce submittals for design intent and operation.

The role requires deep knowledge of building automation, low-voltage systems, and strong problem-solving skills. Ideal candidates have 10+ years in controls, proficiency with LON, and experience with Modbus/BACnet.

Qualifications

• Must have minimum 10 years of experience programming, installing, and/or commissioning controls systems.
• Must be proficient with LON (Local Operating Networks).
• Demonstrated knowledge of construction, service mechanical, electrical, or HVAC service industry.
• Understanding of mechanical drawings, electrical wiring diagrams, control theory, and building automation.
• Experience integrating low-voltage subsystems using Modbus, LON, and BACnet.
• Advanced computer skills, especially Visio.
• Ability to explain technical information to a non-technical audience.
• Must have a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, service, and troubleshoot complex building control systems at customer facilities.
• Create flow diagrams, sequences of operation, bills of material, network layouts, and electrical schematics for service, repair, or installation.
• Develop, test, and adjust software programs to operate systems per customer requirements.
• Coordinate drawings, equipment schedules, and submittals to support service execution and project documentation.
• Load and commission system-level and network-level controllers; verify full functionality.
• Troubleshoot system and field issues with subcontractors and other trades for proper operation.
• Prepare field change information for as-built drawings and software updates.
• Keep management, contractors, and customers informed of progress, risks, and open issues.
• Support site-specific training for owners and operators on the total building control system.
• Participate in release meetings with sales/service operations and perform value engineering as appropriate.
• Provide work direction to Service Controls Technician I, Senior I, and Senior II where assigned.
• Follow safety standards with a high degree of regard for personnel safety.
