Job summary

HDR Building Engineering Services Group is seeking a Senior Building Code & Life Safety Specialist in the United States. You will communicate code requirements to officials, develop complex Life Safety designs, and ensure compliance with ICC and NFPA standards across large facilities.

You will lead design efforts, collaborate with project teams, and provide guidance on code research, plan reviews, and quality control. HDR emphasizes employee ownership and a culture of collaboration.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or high school diploma with relevant experience.
• NFPA/ICC certifications or related credentials.
• Strong AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office skills.
• Ability to lead designs in your area of expertise.
• Commitment to employee-owned culture.

Responsibilities

• Communicate code requirements to city officials, developers, designers, and contractors.
• Develop non-routine Life Safety designs compliant with ICC/NFPA standards.
• Develop Life Safety design for occupancy calculations, travel distances, and code drawings.
• Network with building, fire and life safety professionals.
• Lead projects in Building Code & Life Safety.
• Research codes and provide analysis to clients.
• Perform code research for project development and design.
• Lead HDR code review teams to complete plan reviews.
• Evaluate requests for alternate methods of compliance.
• Provide oversight for project quality control and data documentation.
• Draft and edit code reviews and reports.
• Educate clients and staff on code and regulatory elements.
• Maintain professional organization memberships.
