Job summary

HDR is seeking a Senior Building Code & Life Safety Specialist to lead complex life safety design projects. You will communicate with city officials and designers, develop code-compliant drawings, and mentor HDR's review teams across multiple Texas sites.

We value extensive experience with NFPA and ICC standards, strong AutoCAD/Revit skills, and a collaborative, employee-owned culture. Primary location includes Austin, with other Texas offices supported.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent with relevant experience.
• Advanced NFPA/ICC certifications or related credentials.
• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit and MS Office.
• Ability to lead designs and coordinate with diverse teams.

Responsibilities

• Communicate code requirements to officials, developers, designers and contractors.
• Develop Life Safety designs per ICC/NFPA standards.
• Create occupancy calculations, travel distances and code-compliant drawings.
• Lead HDR code review teams on new projects from outside A/E firms.
• Evaluate alternate methods of compliance and provide recommendations.
• Perform building code research and provide client-facing analyses.
• Support project QA through coordination with teams and authorities.
