Job summary

HDR is seeking a Senior Building Code & Life Safety Specialist to lead complex Fire and Life Safety design efforts. You will communicate code requirements to city officials, developers, and designers, and develop non-routine designs aligned with ICC and NFPA standards.

You will collaborate across HDR’s Building Engineering Services Group, lead code review teams, and advise on regulatory elements while maintaining high-quality client engagement and project oversight.

Qualifications

• Minimum 15 years Building Code & Life Safety design experience.
• Five years working in a Building Department or Fire Marshal’s Office.
• Detailed understanding of a Municipality’s Building Department roles.

Responsibilities

• Communicate code requirements to officials, developers, designers, and contractors.
• Develop non-routine Life Safety designs per ICC/NFPA standards.
• Lead and manage HDR code review teams for plan reviews.
• Evaluate requests for alternate methods of compliance.
• Provide education on code and regulatory elements to HDR and clients.
