Job summary

Ascendion is seeking a senior BAS (Building Automation System) Design Engineer to support building automation and controls delivery for critical facility infrastructure. The role begins with technical review of BAS vendor submittal packages against controls design standards and expands to producing BAS submittal packages directly, following the same structure and rigor used today for EPMS submittals.

This is a hands-on engineering role with independence at a senior level and guidance to junior

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, controls, or related engineering discipline (or equivalent experience).
• Experience reviewing BAS vendor submittals against design standards and dispositioning comments to closure.
• Ability to independently produce complete BAS design packages (sequences of operations, points lists, schematics, diagrams, schedules, specifications).
• Strong knowledge of BAS protocols (BACnet, Modbus) and DDC/PLC controls platforms.
• Working knowledge of HVAC, mechanical, and electrical systems related to controls integration.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Visio.
• Strong written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Review BAS vendor and integrator submittals, shop drawings, and controls programming for compliance with design standards and intent.
• Review submittal content including sequences of operations, points lists, schematics, riser and network diagrams, BOM, and product data.
• Provide technically grounded review comments and track closure through package revisions.
• Validate controls hardware and communication architectures across BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, MQTT and platforms (DDC controllers, PLC, SCADA).
• Ensure HVAC, mechanical and electrical controls integration meets reliability and operability for critical facilities.
• Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and facility engineering on design reviews, RFIs, and field issues.
• Produce BAS submittal packages directly, following structure used for EPMS submittals.
• Develop and own BAS and DDC deliverables and specifications.
• Author and maintain design standards, guide specs, templates, and reference designs for building automation.
• Drive resolution of design gaps and standardization opportunities identified during submittal reviews.
• Provide technical guidance to junior controls design engineers.
