Job summary

Edison Smart is seeking an experienced Senior Building Automation Design Engineer to join our expanding design team. This remote role supports a national portfolio of hyperscale data center projects and requires travel up to 20%.

You will lead the design of BAS systems from concept through implementation, provide technical guidance to engineers and technicians, and coordinate with partners and customers to ensure project success.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in Building Automation Systems, HVAC controls, controls engineering, or a related field.
• Strong hands-on experience with AutoCAD, Visio or Revit.
• Strong understanding of HVAC equipment, control sequences, and mechanical systems.
• Experience with BAS networks and protocols including BACnet, Modbus, and TCP/IP.
• Ability to interpret mechanical, electrical, architectural, and control drawings.
• Experience developing points lists, sequences of operation, control schematics, and system architectures.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and engineering of complex Building Automation Systems (BAS) for commercial and institutional facilities.
• Develop BAS system architectures, network layouts, controller selections, and system schematics.
• Design HVAC control strategies and sequences for AHUs, VAVs, chillers, boilers, pumps, cooling towers, central plants, and other mechanical systems.
• Develop detailed control drawings, points lists, sequences of operation, wiring diagrams, and engineering submittals.
• Review mechanical, electrical, architectural, and control drawings for design coordination.
• Translate project specifications and engineering requirements into practical BAS designs.
• Lead technical design reviews and provide guidance to junior engineers and designers.
• Coordinate with consulting engineers, mechanical contractors, electrical contractors, project managers, and customers.
• Support project teams during installation, programming, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting.
• Review submittals, RFIs, change orders, and design revisions.
• Ensure BAS designs meet project specifications, applicable codes, industry standards, and customer requirements.
