Job summary

The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking a Senior Bridge Inspection Engineer to oversee NBIS-compliant bridge inspections across the district and manage the Bridge Inspection Specialist team. This role includes preparing reports, entering data into BIS/ISIS, and guiding bridge repair planning.

Qualified candidates will hold a PE license in Illinois or be a licensed Structural Engineer, with at least four years of civil engineering experience.

• Current licensure as a Professional Engineer or Structural Engineer in Illinois.
• Four years of civil engineering experience.

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, and control the district Bridge Inspection Technician team for detailed NBIS-compliant bridge inspections.
• Perform field inspections of fracture-critical structures and complex inspections as required.
• Prepare reports and enter inspection data into BIS/ISIS; analyze findings and recommend actions.
• Supervise Day Labor bridge repair projects and assist in developing repair plans.
• Respond to emergency bridge callouts and ensure safety and compliance.
