Job summary

GFT is seeking a Senior Bridge Engineer to join our Transportation Team in Meriden, CT. The role follows a hybrid work model based out of the Meriden office.

You will lead design on CTDOT bridge projects, coordinate with disciplines, attend reviews, and provide day-to-day technical guidance to staff. The ideal candidate has 5–10+ years in bridge design/construct services, proficiency with major design software, and a track record of delivering safe, efficient multilevel bridge solutions.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited civil/structural engineering degree; often both bachelor and master.
• Licensed Professional Engineer in CT preferred but not required.
• 5–10+ years of bridge design experience; familiarity with CTDOT Design Manuals and AASHTO LRFD.
• Experience with design-build, bridge rehab, load ratings, and inspections.

Responsibilities

• Design and analyze structural components of bridges and related structures.
• Perform and check design calculations per engineering principles and standards.
• Develop bridge details for contract drawings and coordinate with CAD staff.
• Calculate quantities and prepare construction cost estimates.
• Support construction, manage submittals, and respond to contractor questions.
• Perform load rating analyses and prepare load rating reports.
• Conduct bridge and tunnel inspections and write inspection reports.
• Prepare engineering design reports and monitor workload/schedule changes.
• Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and review their work.
• Assist in business proposals and client presentations.
