Job summary

GFT, a Transportation-focused firm, seeks a Senior Bridge Engineer to join our Meriden, CT team on a hybrid work model. You will lead CTDOT bridge design efforts, coordinate with multiple disciplines, and provide technical leadership on complex projects.

The ideal candidate has 5–10+ years in bridge design, strong communication skills, and proficiency with suites such as AASHTOWare BrR, Midas, STAAD Pro, AutoCAD/Civil 3D and MicroStation. CT licensure preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Civil/Structural Engineering (ABET-accredited)
  • CT Professional Engineer license preferred but not required
  • 5–10+ years of bridge design experience; familiarity with CTDOT Design Manuals and AASHTO LRFD

Responsibilities

  • Lead design on CTDOT bridge projects and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams
  • Perform and check design calculations for code compliance and project requirements
  • Develop bridge component details for contract drawings and coordinate with CAD personnel
  • Calculate quantities and develop construction cost estimates
  • Provide construction support, review shop drawings, and respond to contractor questions
  • Perform load rating analyses and prepare load rating reports
  • Inspect bridges and prepare inspection reports; prepare engineering design reports
  • Inform Project Managers of workload, schedule changes and scope changes
  • Mentor less experienced engineers and review their work
  • Assist in proposal preparation and client presentations

What You Will Do:

GFT is seeking a Senior Bridge Engineer to join our Transportation Team in Meriden, CT This role follows a hybrid work model, based out of our Meriden, CT office.

What you'll be challenged to do:

GFT has an opening for a Senior Project Bridge Engineer with greater than 5 years of experience in bridge design and construction services. We are seeking an individual who can perform and lead design on CTDOT bridge projects, coordinate with other disciplines, attend internal and client review meetings to develop current and future projects, and provide day-to-day technical leadership and apply technical expertise. There will be opportunities to perform and review structural design calculations for replacement and , rehabilitation projects. Perform structural analysis and load rating of bridges, preparation and review of contract plans, specifications and estimates . Assignments and technical guidance and overall direction will be provided by Project Managers.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
  • Designing and analyzing structural components of bridges and related structures.
  • Performing and Checking design calculations for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, client contract requirements, and related specifications.
  • Developing details of bridge components for contract drawings and coordinating with CAD personnel.
  • Calculating quantities and developing construction cost estimates.
  • Providing construction services support, Reviewing shop drawings. Organize submittals and address questions from contractors during the construction phase of projects.
  • Performing load rating analyses and preparation of load rating reports.
  • Performing bridge and tunnel inspections and preparation of inspection reports.
  • Preparing engineering design reports
  • Informing Project Managers of workload and any changes in project schedule or scope or additional services.
  • Providing technical guidance to less experienced engineers and checking their work

Assisting or participating in the preparation of business proposals, PowerPoint presentations

Education | Experience:
What you will bring to our firm:
  • Bachelor's and/or Master's Degree in Civil and/or Structural Engineering with an emphasis in structures from an ABET-accredited university or college.
  • Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer in CT preferred but not required
  • 5-10+ years of experience in bridge design and familiarity with CTDOT Design Manuals and AASHTO LRFD
  • Experience in new bridge design including design build, bridge rehabilitation, administration of construction services load ratings and/or inspection of bridges.
  • Experience with structural design software such as AASHTOWare BrR, Midas 3D Civil, STAAD Pro, MDX, CSiBridge, LUSAS and/or other structural analysis software and applications such as MathCAD.
  • Strong knowledge and ability of reading plans and shop drawings and evaluating contractor compliance with construction plans and specifications.
  • Team oriented engineer and strong communicator with ability to work concurrently within multiple projects demands and transitioning priorities.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), AutoCAD/Civil 3D and/or MicroStation.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.
Compensation:

The salary range for this role is $125,000 - $155,000; Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
