Job summary

GFT is seeking a Bridge Engineer/Bridge Inspection Team Leader to join our Transportation group in Meriden, CT. The role follows a hybrid work model based out of the Meriden office and offers opportunities to work on transformative bridge and tunnel projects.

You will lead teams, perform complex inspections, and coordinate with multiple agencies to ensure safe, resilient transportation infrastructure and effective project delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (ABET-accredited).
• NBIS qualification as bridge or tunnel inspection team leader.
• Completed FHWA BIRM training (NHI 130055) and current refresher requirements.
• 5+ years of experience in complex bridge safety inspection.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct safety inspections of in-service bridges and tunnels and prepare written reports on structural conditions.
• Lead in-depth inspections using NDT methods, mechanized access equipment, and climbing gear.
• Conduct post-incident bridge inspections to assess damage and recommend actions.
• Coordinate inspection schedules, traffic control, railroad access, navigational channels and related logistics with bridge owners and agencies.
• Lead and train team members, assign tasks, and provide input on staffing and performance.
• Perform other duties as required and travel to support national practice needs.
