Job summary

GFT is seeking a Bridge Engineer/Bridge Inspection Team Leader in Meriden, CT, offering a hybrid work model from the Meriden office. The role focuses on leading safety inspections of bridges and tunnels, coordinating with agencies, and guiding a team through complex inspection tasks.

Travel to support national practice needs is possible. Applicants should hold a ABET-accredited Civil/Structural Engineering degree, NBIS eligibility, and FHWA BIRM training, with 5+ years of bridge inspection

Qualifications

• Must have NBIS eligibility as bridge or tunnel inspection team leader.
• ABET-accredited civil/structural engineering degree.
• High emphasis on communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct safety inspections of in-service bridges and tunnels and prepare written reports on structural conditions.
• Perform or lead in-depth inspections using non-destructive testing methods and climbing gear.
• Conduct post-incident bridge inspections to assess damage and recommend actions including potential closures/detours.
• Coordinate inspection schedules, traffic control, railroad access, and related logistics with bridge owners and agencies.
• Lead and coach team members, assign work, and provide input on staffing and performance.
