SENIOR BRIDGE ENGINEER

Under the direction of the Office Chief, the Load Rating Branch Chief manages all aspects of structural analysis and load rating. Responsibilities include supervising staff, managing workload, and ensuring bridge analysis of State and Local Agency structures complies with AASHTO, Caltrans bridge design, and load rating specifications, as well as SM&I and FHWA requirements.
The incumbent responds to bridge emergencies, directs staff, and coordinates emergency repairs with Caltrans and external units. They may serve on or chair technical committees at in-house and national levels.
During emergencies, extended off-peak hours work may be required.
The role supports bridge analysis for the Structure Permitting Senior (e.g., overweight bridge analysis permitting) and Maintenance Design Branches. Oversight and quality assurance of consultant bridge load rating projects may also be part of the duties.
Must possess and maintain a valid Civil Engineer registration in California and a valid California Driver's License.
