Job summary

Palmetto-General-Hospital seeks a Blood Bank Supervisor to serve as the regional SME and oversee the administrative and technical operation of the Blood Banks in collaboration with the laboratory site management. As a key member of the laboratory leadership team, the supervisor mentors staff, ensures compliance with JCAHO, CAP, OSHA, CLIA, and drives quality assurance, budgeting, and inventory control.

• Interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to monitor, support and evaluate performance of Transfusion Service staff.
• Strong leadership and mentoring abilities to guide a team of Blood Bank professionals.
• Knowledge of current regulatory standards and quality management in a laboratory setting.

Responsibilities

• Provides oversight of technical procedures for the Transfusion Service and related departments.
• Collaborates with leadership to manage staffing, scheduling and workload distribution.
• Monitors quality systems, CAP/JCAHO/OSHA/compliance and prepares recall notices as needed.
• Leads budget development, vendor relations and inventory management for the Blood Bank.
• Participates in hiring, disciplinary actions and staff performance reviews.
• Communicates effectively with physicians and other health care professionals.
