Overview

Join the HJF Team! HJF is seeking a Senior Biomarker Technician to perform research and/or development in collaboration with scientific and technical staff. The role involves designing, executing, and interpreting experiments that contribute to project strategies. The contractor will assist in developing and executing protocols for biomarker verification in BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 environments.

Position Support

This position supports the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) at Fort Detrick, MD. USAMRIID collaborates with military, government, and private entities to protect against biological threats and investigate disease outbreaks, focusing on research, development, testing, and evaluation of medical countermeasures.

Responsibilities

1. Perform experiments in BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 environments as per experimental design.
2. Conduct next-generation sequencing, Nanostring immunological panels, Luminex platforms, and miRNA quantification.
3. Detect etiologic agents in animal and clinical samples.
4. Handle small animals with proper training.
5. Assist in preparing technical reports and manuscripts.
6. Execute sample collection, concentration, and processing, including Nanotrap and DNA/mRNA purification from NHP and human samples.
7. Present protocols and data at weekly meetings.
8. Perform biomarker verification experiments in collaboration with project leads.
9. Travel domestically and internationally as needed for diagnostic support and scientific presentations.
10. Perform sample processing using various protocols and develop NGS protocols for clinical testing.
11. Train new laboratory members in project-specific techniques.
12. Analyze and consolidate biomarker data for reports and publications.
13. Support multiple projects annually, contributing to reports and data management.
14. Author, review, and revise SOPs related to biomarkers.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree with 7 years' related experience or Master's Degree with 3 years' related experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Proficiency in complex laboratory procedures.
• Ability to meet project deadlines.
• Strong communication and analytical skills.
• US Citizenship with ability to obtain and maintain security clearances.

Physical Capabilities

• Maintain health standards for working in high-containment labs.
• Up-to-date immunizations and TB testing.
• Lifting up to 10 lbs.
• Ability to work at a computer for extended periods.

Work Environment

Primarily in laboratory settings.

Compensation

Salary range: $57,650 - $93,100, based on experience and education.
