Overview

Join the HJF Team!

HJF is seeking a Senior Biomarker Repository Technician to perform research and/or development in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff. The technician may exercise technical discretion in designing, executing, and interpreting experiments that contribute to project strategies. The contractor shall assist in developing and independently executing protocols adhering to experimental designs for biomarker verification, in collaboration with the project Lead/PI, in BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 environments.

This position supports the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) Technical Research Support Services at Fort Detrick, Frederick, MD. USAMRIID collaborates with various military, government, interagency, and private entities to protect warfighters from biological threats, investigating disease outbreaks and threats to public health through research, development, testing, and evaluation of medical countermeasures.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization supporting military medicine by managing scientific programs benefiting armed forces and civilians, serving as a vital link between the military medical community and its partners since 1983.

Responsibilities

• Perform experiments at BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 environments as required by experimental design and organisms.
• Conduct molecular diagnostics including next-generation sequencing, Nanostring panels, Luminex platforms, and miRNA quantification.
• Detect etiologic agents in animal and clinical samples.
• Handle small animals with appropriate training.
• Assist in preparing technical reports and manuscripts.
• Execute sample collection, concentration, and processing protocols, including Nanotrap and DNA/mRNA purification from NHP and human matrices.
• Present protocols and data in weekly meetings.
• Identify and troubleshoot assay and instrument issues, communicating with project Leads/PI.
• Travel support for diagnostic missions and scientific presentations may be required.
• Manage biosample repository responsibilities in collaboration with Leads/PI.
• Perform detailed clinical sample testing for BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 studies.
• Train new laboratory members on project-specific techniques.
• Serve as laboratory supervisor to ensure safety, functionality, and stock management.
• Analyze and consolidate biomarker data and repository metadata.
• Support planning and execution of multiple projects annually.
• Contribute to biomarker reports, SOPs, and data management.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree with 7 years' related experience or Master’s Degree with 3 years’ related experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of complex laboratory procedures.
• Ability to meet project deadlines.
• Strong communication and analytical skills.
• US citizenship, ability to obtain and maintain T3/Secret clearance, and certifications such as BRPR, CPRP, or CSPRP, including background checks.

Physical Capabilities

• Maintain health to meet BPRP, CPRP, CSPRP requirements.
• Up-to-date immunizations and negative TB test if working with patients or research participants.
• Lifting up to 10 lbs.
• Prolonged standing or sitting at a computer.

Work Environment

• Primarily laboratory setting.

Compensation

• Annual salary range: $57,650 - $93,100, based on experience and education.
