HJF is seeking a Senior Biomarker Repository Technician to perform research and/or development in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff. The role involves designing, executing, and interpreting experiments that contribute to project strategies. The technician will develop and execute protocols for biomarker verification in BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 environments.

Position Overview

This position supports the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) at Fort Detrick, MD. USAMRIID collaborates with military, government, and private entities to protect against biological threats and investigate disease outbreaks. The role involves conducting research, development, testing, and evaluation of medical countermeasures against biological threats.

Responsibilities

1. Perform experiments at BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 according to experimental design.
2. Conduct molecular diagnostics including next-generation sequencing, Nanostring panels, Luminex platforms, and miRNA quantification.
3. Detect etiologic agents in animal and clinical samples.
4. Handle small animals with proper training.
5. Assist in preparing technical reports and manuscripts.
6. Perform sample collection, concentration, and processing, including Nanotrap and DNA/mRNA purification.
7. Present protocols and data at weekly meetings.
8. Identify and troubleshoot assay and instrument issues.
9. Travel support for diagnostic missions and scientific presentations.
10. Maintain biosample repository responsibilities.
11. Conduct detailed clinical sample testing for animal and human studies.
12. Train new laboratory members in project-specific techniques.
13. Supervise laboratory spaces to ensure safety and functionality.
14. Analyze and consolidate biomarker data for reports and publications.
15. Support multiple projects annually.
16. Contribute to biomarker SOPs and reports.
17. Maintain BPRP enrollment and compliance.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree with 7 years’ related experience or Master’s Degree with 3 years’ experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of complex laboratory procedures.
• Ability to meet project deadlines.
• Strong communication and analytical skills.
• US Citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain security clearances and certifications.

Physical Capabilities

• Maintain health for eligibility in BPRP, CPRP, CSPRP.
• Up-to-date immunizations and TB testing if applicable.
• Lifting up to 10 lbs.
• Prolonged standing or sitting at a computer.

Work Environment

Laboratory settings primarily.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $57,650 - $93,100, based on experience and education. HJF offers comprehensive benefits including health, dental, vision, retirement, and more.
