Job summary

Lilly is constructing the Lilly Medicine Foundry in Lebanon, Indiana, to enable GMP manufacturing of biologics. A Senior Process Engineer will support the site with upstream and downstream operations, develop process knowledge, and address technical challenges for startup into manufacturing.

Initial location is Parkwood West, Indianapolis, with permanent relocation to the Lebanon facility. The role emphasizes safety, cross-functional collaboration, and quality-driven process development.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in chemical engineering, biochemical engineering, or a related discipline and a minimum of 2 years of experience with a pharmaceutical, biotech, or CMO environment supporting the process engineering of biologics drug substance manufacturing or development.
• Demonstrated experience with upstream and/or downstream biologics unit operations (bioreactors, media prep, centrifugation, chromatography or filtration).
• Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Lilly will not provide sponsorship for work authorization or visas for this role.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical assessment and support for production operations in process knowledge, equipment support, process optimization, and asset management.
• Perform impact and risk assessments for unit operations.
• Learn lab and plant reactor design, automation recipes, and procedures.
• Ensure safety and compliance with Quality System requirements and cGMP.
• Engage with HSE, QA, Tech Services, Development, Operations, Automation, Maintenance, and Environmental Monitoring.
• Author, review, or approve technical reports detailing basis of design, facility fit, and comparability.
• Support scale-up/scale-down strategy and troubleshooting for biologics unit operations, including cell culture media/feed strategies and contamination control.
• Demonstrate quality mindset and identify quality issues proactively.
• Develop or review project plans and timetables; suggest process and equipment improvements.
