Job summary

Baystate Health in Springfield, MA is seeking a Senior Benefits Consultant to shape our benefits strategy and support employees and families. The role partners with Finance, vendors, and leadership to design, analyze, and optimize benefit programs, with a focus on cost management and regulatory compliance.

The position requires 7–10+ years in employee benefits, deep knowledge across health, retirement, and voluntary benefits, and strong analytical and communication skills.

Qualifications

• 7–10+ years of progressive experience in employee benefits, required
• Deep technical knowledge of health and welfare, retirement, and voluntary benefits
• Experience with self-funded benefit plans and financial modeling
• Experience working within a healthcare system or large employer environment, strongly preferred
• Strong financial, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to interpret complex data and translate it into clear, actionable recommendations
• Strong experience with vendor evaluation, RFPs, negotiations, and relationship management
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Strong project management, organization, and prioritization abilities
• Ability to manage multiple complex initiatives while maintaining attention to detail

Responsibilities

• Shape Benefits Strategy by evaluating, designing, and enhancing benefit programs
• Analyze plan design, market trends, utilization, and emerging practices to identify opportunities
• Lead RFP processes, vendor evaluation, benchmarking, and comparative analysis
• Support vendor selection and negotiation strategies with Benefits leadership and external consultants
• Provide guidance on applicable benefits regulations (ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, IRS, DOL)
• Prepare analyses and recommendations to support leadership decisions
• Mentor junior team members and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic healthcare environment
