Job summary

MAPT in California seeks a Senior Manager for Battery Design Engineering to lead architecture decisions and mentor a small team across mechanical, electrical, thermal, and safety domains. You’ll stay close to engineering details as development moves toward production.

Responsibilities include system integration, DFMEA, design reviews, and ensuring manufacturability with strong CAD and DFM focus. MAPT offers equity and competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in battery pack/module design and development.
• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Deep expertise across battery architecture: cell integration, thermal management, HV safety, and structural design.
• Advanced CAD proficiency and involvement in detailed design.
• Strong DFM knowledge across molding, stamping, casting, and machining.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop battery module and pack architecture with cell integration and thermal management.
• Assess architecture trade-offs in energy density, weight, cost, safety, and manufacturability; drive decisions.
• Lead DFMEA, DVP&R, design release, and certification/homologation with hands-on analysis.
• Set design standards and cadences that embed safety and quality into rapid iteration.
• Prototype, test, debug, and iterate hardware with the team.
• Guide technical direction for the battery systems roadmap aligned with product priorities.
• Coordinate milestones across mechanical, electrical, thermal, and structural workstreams.
• Lead and grow a small battery engineering team; mentor engineers daily.
• Be an approachable hands-on leader for problem solving and solution development.
• Foster a culture of technical excellence and intellectual honesty.
