Job summary

Aptera Motors in Carlsbad, CA, seeks a Sr Staff Engineer – EV Battery System to set the technical strategy and architecture for the vehicle's battery systems, spanning concept to series production. You will own design and validation plans, guide sourcing, and collaborate with manufacturing, quality, simulation, and vehicle integration teams to ensure performance and safety.

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on EV battery systems experience.
• Experience with cell chemistry, module and pack design, and thermal management.
• Proven ability to lead design, release, and cross-functional engineering teams.
• Mentor engineers and grow design/release capabilities.
• Knowledge of automotive standards and PPAP/IATF 16949.

Responsibilities

• Define and own battery systems strategy, architecture, and roadmap.
• Lead design and integration of battery components for series production.
• Serve as senior technical authority on battery decisions and cross-functional escalations.
• Set design standards and best practices, and mentor engineers.
• Lead FMEA and risk mitigation efforts across system and component levels.
• Coordinate with internal and external teams to release battery components.
