Job summary

Rivian is seeking a Cell Development Engineer to drive battery cell roadmapping, chemistry optimization, and supplier nomination for current and future Rivian EV platforms.

You will lead cell design, testing, and validation, collaborate with cross-functional teams including purchasing, engineering, and safety, and contribute to IP development and technology maturation before production launch.

Qualifications

• MS degree in chemistry/chemical engineering/materials science with 8+ years of experience in lithium-ion batteries R&D or manufacturing.
• Experience leading lithium-ion cell programs from concept to SOP for high-volume applications.
• Strong understanding of cell components and electrochemical properties.
• Experience in DFMEA/PFMEA, PPAP, Line audit.
• Familiar with electrochemical techniques (EIS, GITT, CV, PITT).
• Excellent communication, time management and project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Own cell development from design optimization to A-sample lock.
• Develop the cell technical roadmap and strategy for current and future products.
• Establish relationships with cell vendors and collaborate with purchasing for sourcing.
• Translate vehicle requirements into detailed cell specs; ensure safety, performance and cost targets.
• Oversee DFMEA/PFMEA and collaboration with testing and modeling teams.
• Drive cell validation through testing, data analysis, and model validation.
