Job summary

Rivian is seeking a Cell Development Engineer to lead battery cell roadmapping, chemistry optimization, and supplier nomination. You will own the cell product planning, conduct RFP/RFQ technical assessments, and drive readiness for mass production across current and future platforms.

You will partner with cross functional teams, test and model cell performance, manage DFMEA/PFMEA processes, and help advance Rivian’s lithium-ion technology toward higher performance and durability for diverse EV

Qualifications

• MS degree in chemistry/chemical engineering/materials science; PhD preferred.
• 8+ years of experience in R&D or manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries.
• Experience leading lithium-ion cell programs from concept to SOP for high-volume applications.
• Strong understanding of cell components and electrochemical properties.
• Experience in DFMEA/PFMEA, PPAP, and line audits.
• Familiar with common electrochemical techniques (EIS, GITT, CV, PITT).
• Independent worker with strong communication and project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Own cell development from design optimization to A-sample lock.
• Develop the cell technical roadmap and strategy for current and future products.
• Establish relationships with cell vendors and coordinate with purchasing for sourcing.
• Translate vehicle requirements into cell specifications with cross-functional teams.
• Oversee DFMEA/PFMEA during early-stage cell supplier workups.
• Drive testing, validation, and modeling of cell chemistries; guide data-driven decisions.
• Collaborate with modeling engineers to extract parameters and validate cell models.
• Advance library of validation techniques and mitigation strategies for degradation.
