Job summary

Rivian is seeking a Sr. Staff Mechanical Design Engineer, Battery Analysis to join the Battery Analysis team within Energy Storage Systems.

You will provide technical leadership for dynamic deformation and thermal-structural CAE of battery packs, modules, and related components. You will use explicit finite-element simulation, thermal-structural analysis, engineering judgment, and test correlation to inform design direction, evaluate crash, impact, durability, and environmental performance, and

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical/ Aerospace/ Civil or Structural Engineering or related field.
• Significant CAE experience on mechanical, structural, thermal-structural or durability problems.
• Strong understanding of mechanics of materials, FEA, nonlinear behavior, thermal expansion and failure modes.
• Hands-on LS-DYNA for explicit dynamic analysis (model setup, material and failure definitions).
• Hands-on OptiStruct for thermal-structural analysis including thermal loading and boundary conditions.

Responsibilities

• Lead dynamic-deformation and thermal-structural CAE for battery pack/module designs.
• Develop and improve FE models for crash, drop, vibration, and thermal cases.
• Create DOE studies to map structural/thermal sensitivities and envelopes.
• Correlate CAE results with test data and refine models accordingly.
• Define acceptance criteria and communicate findings to stakeholders.
• Mentor engineers and help establish CAE standards across programs.
