Job summary

Rivian is seeking a Sr. Staff Mechanical Design Engineer, Battery Analysis to join the Battery Analysis team within Energy Storage Systems.

You will provide technical leadership for dynamic deformation and thermal-structural CAE of battery packs, modules, and related components. You will use explicit finite-element simulation, thermal-structural analysis, engineering judgment, and test correlation to inform design direction, evaluate crash, impact, durability, and environmental performance, and

Qualifications

Degree in Mechanical/ Aerospace/ Civil or Structural Engineering or related field.
Significant CAE experience on mechanical, structural, thermal-structural or durability problems.
Strong understanding of mechanics of materials, FEA, nonlinear behavior, thermal expansion and failure modes.
Hands-on LS-DYNA for explicit dynamic analysis (model setup, material and failure definitions).
Hands-on OptiStruct for thermal-structural analysis including thermal loading and boundary conditions.

Responsibilities

Lead dynamic-deformation and thermal-structural CAE for battery pack/module designs.
Develop and improve FE models for crash, drop, vibration, and thermal cases.
Create DOE studies to map structural/thermal sensitivities and envelopes.
Correlate CAE results with test data and refine models accordingly.
Define acceptance criteria and communicate findings to stakeholders.
Mentor engineers and help establish CAE standards across programs.
