Job Description:

Parsons is seeking a talented Senior Bacterial Core Lab Technician to support research for our government customer in Frederick, MD. This role involves managing BSL-3 laboratory operations and conducting animal studies to research bacterial pathogens and potential therapeutics.

Work hours: Regular, with potential weekends or extra hours as needed.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Managing BSL-3 lab operations and training in animal manipulations, conducting about 5 animal studies annually.
  • Performing in vitro MIC testing of therapeutic compounds against Tier 1 bacteria, testing over 72 compounds against diverse strains.
  • Participating in small animal studies, including preparation, administration, and sample collection.
  • Ensuring compliance with IACUC protocols through animal health exams.
  • Engaging in weekly lab meetings, assisting in research design, and presenting at scientific conferences.
  • Supporting pharmacokinetics and toxicology studies, including sample collection and analysis.
  • Contributing to in vivo pharmacology research, analyzing pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and efficacy.
  • Assisting with data analysis, report drafting, and supporting biophysical testing techniques.
  • Preparing media and reagents, and managing animal challenges and collections.
  • Performing animal injections, observations, necropsies, and tissue burdens.
  • Managing laboratory inventories and safety functions, reviewing literature, and assisting with SOPs and manuscripts.
  • Presenting research findings, maintaining GLP training, and contributing to study design and documentation.
  • Establishing material transfer and research agreements with external partners.
  • Other duties as assigned.
    Required Skills:
    • Bachelor's in Biology, Microbiology, or related field with 5+ years of relevant experience.
    • 2-3 years managing BSL-3 labs and animal studies.
    • 2-3 years performing MIC testing against Tier 1 bacteria.
    • Willingness to work with specific bacterial agents.
    • 3-5 years conducting small animal studies.
    • Experience with IACUC protocols, pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics.
    • Proficiency with mass spectrometry, chromatography, HPLC MS/MS, and data analysis software.
    • Experience with animal necropsies, gavage, blood collections, and inventory management.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain NACI clearance; BPRP and CS-PRP enrollment required.
