Hex Technologies Inc. is hiring a senior backend engineer to evolve the execution architecture of its graph-based system that compiles, plans, and runs user notebooks.

You will own performance, scalability, and platform integration, including building compute components and a new internal query language to target connected data warehouses. This is a fully remote role within the US Eastern time zone, with the option to work from our NYC office.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of backend engineering experience with a focus on computation and systems architecture.
• Experience with parallel execution strategies, caching, and remote data warehouse computation.
• Proven track record solving large-scale systems design problems with data complexity.
• Ability to translate vague problems into well-articulated technical solutions and roadmaps.
• Strong communicator; comfortable leading across a remote-first team.
• Proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript; experience with both is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Evolve the execution architecture including building new compute components to speed execution.
• Drive parallel execution strategies and caching to reduce latency.
• Instrument systems to surface performance issues and show where time is spent.
• Collaborate to support platform capabilities, like a query language for connected warehouses.
• Author and review proposals and mentor engineers to implement ambitious designs.
• Roadmap long-term designs with milestones across quarters.
