Job summary

Hex Technologies is seeking a Senior or Staff-level software engineer for the Backend Platform team. You will contribute to the core compute platform that powers code execution, SQL querying, and data processing across Hex apps.

The role emphasizes performance, architecture, and scalable design. You'll work on projects spanning backend data systems to the notebook frontend, using Python, SQL, and modern data tooling.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of engineering experience with data-driven systems or applications.
• Expert-level Python and SQL skills, plus experience with notebook kernels and data warehousing.
• Strong understanding of modern data architectures and performance optimization.
• Comfort with remote collaboration and clear communication in a distributed team.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Hex’s Backend Platform for code execution, SQL, and data processing.
• Tackle high-complexity projects spanning backend data systems to frontend notebook interfaces.
• Design elegant abstractions to improve correctness and developer productivity.
• Identify performance bottlenecks and optimize multi-language, multi-service workflows.
• Collaborate across teams in a remote-first environment with strong communication.
