Job summary

Pattern is seeking a senior backend engineer to lead and oversee our central authentication, authorization, and security infrastructure. You will own the design and delivery of RBAC/ABAC systems, scale existing services, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement secure, scalable solutions.

You will write backend code in Ruby and Go, maintain PostgreSQL databases, and integrate OAuth/OIDC/SAML/JWT protocols. Expect a high-volume feature pace with a focus on reliability and security.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3+ years of backend engineering focused on security, identity, or platform systems.
• Proven track record building and maintaining central Authentication and Authorization systems.
• Direct experience with RBAC/ABAC frameworks and security protocols (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, JWT).
• Ability to manage competing feature requests while maintaining legacy codebases.
• Strong PostgreSQL experience and REST/gRPC API design.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee software engineering for central security infra.
• Maintain, scale, and optimize authentication and authorization apps.
• Triage, scope, and build feature requests from cross-functional teams.
• Write, test, and deploy back-end code using Ruby and Go.
• Design and enforce fine-grained RBAC across internal platforms and APIs.
• Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to integrate core security services.
• Automate workflows and integrate AI to improve efficiency.
• Monitor performance, reduce technical debt, and ensure availability.
• Prioritize feature requests while maintaining stability and performance.
• Delegate and monitor repeatable work with junior engineers.
