Nametag is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design and scale our identity verification and account protection platform. This backend-first role owns production services, APIs, database design, authentication flows, and reliability. You will collaborate with product, design, and leadership on a small, high-ownership team.

The role emphasizes strong backend judgment, production ownership, and security-focused engineering, with a remote-first US setup.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building and operating production backend systems.
• Experience designing APIs and services used by real customers or high-scale internal systems.
• Strong relational database experience, PostgreSQL preferred.
• Hands-on cloud experience, AWS preferred.
• Familiarity with authentication, authorization, identity, security, or fraud and abuse prevention.
• Clear communication and good judgment in a remote, cross-functional team.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate backend services and APIs that power identity verification, account recovery, and account protection workflows.
• Own database schema design, migrations, query performance, and data integrity.
• Build and harden authentication, authorization, and data-protection systems.
• Design for correctness under load, including idempotency, safe retries, failure handling, and observability.
• Contribute to architecture decisions and help shape the technical roadmap.
• Partner with product and design to ship secure, usable customer-facing workflows.
• Build internal tools and dashboards that improve operational visibility and developer workflows.
• Debug production issues across services, data, infrastructure, and user flows.
