Job summary

Harvey is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Backend Platform team in San Francisco, shaping how backend foundations are built and maintained for scalable, secure workflows across the product. You will own frameworks, libraries, and core abstractions used by product engineers every day.

You'll hire and mentor engineers, define technical direction, and collaborate with Security, Infrastructure, and product teams to deliver reliable, high-performance systems that empower rapid product

Qualifications

• Deep technical judgment in backend architecture and distributed systems, including database access patterns, concurrency, caching, API design, and performance.
• Experience building shared libraries, frameworks, or internal platforms adopted by multiple engineering teams.
• The technical depth to engage directly in design and code reviews, in-depth architectural discussions, and hands-on contributions.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the Backend Platform team. Hire, coach, and retain exceptional engineers, giving them clear ownership and growth opportunities.
• Define the platform’s technical vision and roadmap; partner with product engineering teams to address hard problems and deliver impactful improvements.
• Build the next generation of Harvey’s backend foundations with shared frameworks for database access, session management, caching, and streaming.
• Scale the data layer and improve reliability, latency, and observability across products.
• Shape a codebase that humans and AI can build in confidently with modular boundaries and reusable components.
