Harvey is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Backend Platform in San Francisco to lead a team building core backend foundations, libraries, and services powering AI-driven workflows. You will own architectural direction, coach engineers, and collaborate with Security, Infrastructure, and product teams to deliver reliable systems.

You’ll hire, mentor, and drive improvements in latency, observability, and developer productivity while shaping a scalable platform used across the organization.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience and 3+ years of engineering management experience.
• Deep technical judgment in backend architecture and distributed systems.
• Experience building shared libraries, frameworks, or internal platforms across multiple teams.
• Strong communication, leadership, and collaboration across engineering, security, and product.
• Hands-on experience with AI coding agents is valuable.

Responsabilités

• Lead and grow the Backend Platform team with ownership and growth opportunities.
• Define the platform’s technical vision and roadmap in collaboration with product teams.
• Oversee design of shared frameworks for database access, caching, and request handling.
• Collaborate with Infrastructure to evolve storage and databases while lowering duplication.
• Improve latency, observability, and reliability across products and services.
• Shape architecture with security, reliability, and production-readiness in mind.
• Hire, coach, and develop engineers and foster a culture of ownership.
• Drive adoption of platform tools and measure impact on developer productivity.
• Lead architecture discussions and review critical code with peers and stakeholders.
• Partner with Security and product teams to safeguard data and prevent failures.
